On 28 February, we will launch an indicative ballot asking members if they would be prepared to strike over pay, funding and workload.
Our schools are at breaking point, they are chronically underfunded and the situation has not improved under the current government. Worryingly, the proposed solution from the education secretary is to attack our terms and conditions, and force the argument about funding onto individual staff and leaders. Some of the highlights include:
- 6.5% unfunded pay rise over three years (inflation currently 3.4%)
- Removal of salary safeguards that deter schools from restructuring (currently 3 years)
- Review the 1265 limit for directed time which is potentially creating a constraint on schools’ deployment of teachers, other than what is “best” for pupils
